Coach Laura Taylor

Head Coach

SOFTBALL BIO

  • Former Assistant Softball Coach at Jacksonville University, St. John’s University and Providence College.

  • Two time NPF Player of the Week with the NY/NJ Juggernaut in 2005.

  • Coached both an Atlantic Sun and a Big East Conference Player of the Year.

  • 2005 Big East Player of the Year.

  • 2002 NCAA Statistical Champion for Home Runs per game with 18 HRs in 43 Games.

  • Seton Hall’s career leader with 59 home runs, 160 RBIs, and 103 walks.

  • Inducted into Seton Hall Athletics Hall of Fame 2019.

After finishing her third year as the assistant coach at Jacksonville University in 2014, Laura Taylor, a former Seton Hall standout, decided to move towards professional instruction in the Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville area. She is passionate about sharing the fundamentals with the youth in the area.

In 2012, the Dolphins reached the 30-win plateau (31) for the third straight season and earned a spot in the conference tournament for the fourth consecutive year.

Offensively, the Dolphins ranked second in the A-Sun in hitting (.278), hits (416) and third in doubles (57). The batting average and double total ranked second all-time at JU in a single season.

With Taylor’s guidance, sophomore Karson Tuck, sophomore Codi Kelly, senior Kayla Ouellet, and freshman Ashley Simon each earned A-Sun second team all-conference honors.

Taylor spent 2011 as the National Softball Director at Frozen Ropes, a softball/baseball training center franchise whose headquarters are in Chester, N.Y., less than an hour from New York City. She was the lead softball instructor at the center which had over 300 students. Her duties included spearheading the company’s College Bound Program which assisted high school players through the recruiting process. She also coordinated the softball travel teams and was the Head Coach of the 16 and under team.

Before her work at the training center, Taylor spent four seasons as the hitting coach for St. Johns University which saw an increase in offensive production in each of her years culminating in 2010.

During the 2010 season, the Red Storm had four players at .300 or better, up from two the previous season. St. John’s also had a .400 hitter in 2010 as the team batting average went from .250 in 2009 to .272. The team’s slugging percentage was .388 as run production rose from 168 in 2009 to 186.

Taylor worked closely with second team All-Region selection, Kacee Cox, who lead all of the hitters with a.404 batting average in 2010.

In addition to working with hitters and catchers, Taylor also was recruiting coordinator and helped assemble strong classes from throughout the country.

Taylor’s first foray into coaching was in 2006 when she worked with Providence College which finished sixth in the Big East while compiling a 29-19-1 record. It was the first time since 1996 that Providence advanced to the Big East tournament as the Friars compiled the most team wins since 1995.

Her playing days included a stellar four-year career from 2001-05 at Seton Hall.

She slammed 18 home runs as a freshman, and was the NCAA home run statistical champion. At the beginning of her sophomore year, in 2002, Taylor was invited to the USA Olympic Tryout in Chula Vista, CA.

She closed out her career as one of the top hitters in NCAA history. She is the Pirates’ all-time leader in home runs with 59, a mark that ties her for 18th on the NCAA all-time list. She also had 180 hits and a program-best 160 RBI, was named Big East Player of the Year in 2005 and was a three-time All Big East and All Northeast Region selection.

Five times in her career, Taylor was named Big East Player of the Week and was Seton Hall’s Female Athlete of the Year on three separate occasions.

Taylor’s softball career ended as a part of the National Pro Fastpitch’s (NPF) NY/NJ Juggernaut. She was the NPF’s Player of the Week twice.

Taylor graduated from Seton Hall with a bachelor’s degree in finance in 2005 and subsequently earned her MBA from St. Johns. Her father, Jeff Taylor, spent eight years the special assistant to the General Manager for the Cincinnati Reds and has scouted for the New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays.
